Jetboil cooking

We use a Jetboil for all our cooking. The Jetboil is a very efficient and light stove. However it does not simmer, it is either off or on full. To get around this we have developed some techniques to cook various dishes.

Brown Rice

This usually takes about 30 minutes to cook. For two people add one cup of brown rice then fill the jetboil with water. Bring it to the boil then turn off the jetboil. Cover the entire jetboil with an insulating bag (cosy) and leave for 10 minutes. Remove the cosy and boil again. Repeat this process again at 20 minutes. After 30 minutes remove the cosy and drain the water. The rice will now be cooked.

You can also add dried peas when adding the water. These will cook along with the rice.

Pasta

To cook pasta we always use the small spirals. These cook much faster than the larger shapes. We also usually use the vegetable spirals, an attempt at vegetables.

For two people fill the jetboil with pasta to within 1cm of the top. Fill the jetboil with water till it covers the pasta. Bring it to the boil then turn the jetboil off. Wait for about 5 minutes and test the pasta it is usually cooked by then. Drain and eat.
